Skills: The Path to Public Arts with Carola Bravo
May 21 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free

This two-hour introductory workshop provides artists with a practical roadmap to the basics of applying to public art calls. Drawing from real-world public art practice, including public commissions and the integration of art into architecture, the session explains how calls work: how to read them, how to respond strategically, and how to present work that resonates with selection committees. Participants will gain clarity on key application components such as statements of interest, resumes, portfolios, budgets, and schedules, as well as common requirements around community engagement, durability, maintenance, fabrication, and site feasibility.
Carola Bravo is a Venezuelan-American artist and architect whose thirty-five-year art practice bridges public art, architecture, and contemporary visual culture. Working through spatial interventions, immersive installations, and video, her work explores memory, displacement, and the politics of place.
