SUMMARY:Oolite Presents: Global Media Exchanges: Women across Moving Image: Sustaining Practice
DESCRIPTION:Global Media Exchanges: \nWomen across Moving Image: Sustaining Practice \nGlobal Media Exchanges is a new initiative we’ve been developing as part of the expansion of our Cinematic Residency. The initiative is designed to create a space to connect with filmmakers and moving image practitioners from around the world—while also connecting the world to South Florida.\n\nThis first edition will bring together three accomplished filmmakers whose practices span different countries\, industries\, and forms of moving image: \nIsabel Sandoval – Philippines\nFilmmaker and actress from the Philippines whose work explores identity\, politics\, and intimate human relationships. Her films include Señorita\, Aparisyon\, and Lingua Franca\, which made history when Isabel became the first trans woman of color to compete at the Venice Film Festival.\nRecommended viewing: Lingua Franca — available on Criterion Channel. \nMarialy Rivas  – Chile\nAward-winning Chilean filmmaker whose work includes the features Young & Beautiful and Princesita\, as well as episodes of HBO’s Perry Mason\, BBC’s The Jetty\, and Hulu’s The Season. Her films have screened at festivals including Cannes\, Sundance\, Berlinale\, and the New York Film Festival.\nRecommended viewing: Young & Beautiful — available on Sundance Now. \nRaven Jackson  – USA\nAward-winning filmmaker\, poet\, and photographer from Tennessee. Her debut feature\, All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt\, premiered in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and was recognized as one of the year’s best films by several publications.\nRecommended viewing: All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt — available on Prime Video\, YouTube TV\, and Apple TV. \nThe conversation will be moderated by Miami-based filmmaker and Oolite Arts Cinematic alumna Monica Sorelle\, known for her debut feature film Mountains (2023). \nThe conversation will focus on sustaining a creative practice through the experiences of women working across different industries\, countries\, and moving image practices. \nEvent Details\nDate: Wednesday\, September 2\nTime: 1:00–2:30 PM ET (Miami time)\nLocation: Live on Oolite Arts’ YouTube channel
