SUMMARY:What’s My Line? Drawing as Experience Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:What’s My Line? Drawing as Experience \nApril 24 – July 16\, 2026 \nOpening Reception: Saturday\, May 2\, 2–4 PM\nMiami Beach Regional Library\, 227 22nd St\, Miami Beach\, FL 33139 \nWhat’s My Line? Drawing as Experience brings together a group of artists who approach drawing not as a static image\, but as a living act—an unfolding of thought\, time\, and perception. From monumental chalk figures to harmonic motion photographs\, from continuous lines that never lift from the wall to data rendered as kinetic self-portrait\, the exhibition expands drawing into gesture\, sound\, code\, and space. \nThe artists included—Carola Bravo\, Spencer Chang\, Chris Friday\, Richard Garet\, Felice Grodin\, Juraj Kojs\, Pablo Matute\, Ana Mosquera\, Owen Roberts\, Judith Robertson\, Sterling Rook\, Laurencia Strauss\, Alba Tiana\, Claudia Vieira\, Tom Virgin\, and Michelle Weinberg—span a wide range of disciplines and materials. What connects them is not style\, but a shared openness: a willingness to let the line lead\, to trust process\, to follow the work into uncharted territory. \n

SUMMARY:El Manisero with Pablo Cano
DESCRIPTION:Our string quintet plays songs from Handel\, Bizet\, Giordano and more with Pablo’s marionettes\, including  the Peanut Vendor\, Celia Cruz\, a ballerina and Marie Antoinette. We finish the program with Al Torrente’s Manisero Fantasy. \nBorn in Cuba\, Al Torrente came to this country at age eleven and grew up in Miami\, playing guitar and trumpet in bands. After graduating from the University of Miami with a Theory and Composition degree\, Mr. Torrente taught Composition and Arranging at the Berklee School of Music. He received a Master’s degree in Jazz Composition from the Manhattan School of Music. Al was inspired by “El manisero“\, known in English as “The Peanut Vendor”\, a Cuban son-pregón (street vendor’s cry) composed by Moisés Simons. His “Fantasy” is for string quintet with 2 cellos and even includes a samba whistle. \nPablo Cano is a Miami performance artist born in Havana\, Cuba. He is known for his enchanting marionettes created from found objects and debris. Influenced by artists such as Alexander Calder and Pablo Picasso\, as well as art movements like Magic Realism\, Dada and Surrealism\, he creates a dream-like world where inanimate objects spring to life. \nThis free event requires a ticket.

SUMMARY:Skills: The Path to Public Arts with Carola Bravo
DESCRIPTION:This two-hour introductory workshop provides artists with a practical roadmap to the basics of applying to public art calls. Drawing from real-world public art practice\, including public commissions and the integration of art into architecture\, the session explains how calls work: how to read them\, how to respond strategically\, and how to present work that resonates with selection committees. Participants will gain clarity on key application components such as statements of interest\, resumes\, portfolios\, budgets\, and schedules\, as well as common requirements around community engagement\, durability\, maintenance\, fabrication\, and site feasibility. \nCarola Bravo is a Venezuelan-American artist and architect whose thirty-five-year art practice bridges public art\, architecture\, and contemporary visual culture. Working through spatial interventions\, immersive installations\, and video\, her work explores memory\, displacement\, and the politics of place.
